Before the Spanish colonization of the Americas in the 15th and 16th centuries, fantastic pre-Columbian societies flourished in what is commonly referred as Mesoamerica. Some of these societies matured into advanced civilizations such as the: Olmec, Teotihuacan, Maya, Zapotec, Mixtec, Huastec, Purepecha,
Toltec and Mexica (Aztecs), and flourished for nearly 4,000 years before first contact with Europeans.
These indigenous civilizations are credited with many inventions in: building pyramid-temples, mathematics, astronomy, medicine, writing, highly accurate calendars, fine arts, intensive agriculture, engineering, an abacus calculator, a complex theology, and yes even the wheel (although without any draft animals, the wheel was used only as a toy).
This is THE place to discuss the achievements and history of these ancient lost civilizations.
